Nutrition

We believe living well means eating healthily, without compromising on the food you love. Our company nutritionist and award-winning development chefs ensure our menus continually evolve to meet the latest nutrition guidance and environmental actions.

We actively promote healthy eating through nutrition workshops, and our Goodness Range concept can be tailored to suit all healthy eating requirements.

Environment

Protecting the environment in which we live is one of our key responsibilities and influences every aspect of our service.

We have reduced our impact on the environment by proactively decreasing our carbon footprint, via fleet optimisation and smart sourcing, and reducing wastage through innovative plastic reduction measures and recycling cooking oil into biofuels.

Additionally, we are one of the few catering companies to utilise “Ugly Veg”, which prevented 62,000kg of food from going to waste in the first 3 months.

People

We’re immensly proud of our people. We’re as mindful about finding the right people to join the Academy team as we are about picking our ingredients. Academy is committed to its efforts to develop a diverse and inclusive workforce, encourage colleague development, prevent discrimination and harassment and support colleague engagement.

Our Culinary Classroom (an Institute of Learning & Management endorsed ten-month programme) and RSPH courses (H&S, Food Safety and Nutrition) enable our colleagues to perfect their culinary craft and remain at the forefront of ever-evolving food trends.

Animal Welfare

We believe that animals, farmed or otherwise, should enjoy a good quality of life. The farmers and producers we work with are regularly reviewed to assure the ongoing welfare of animals already in our food supply chain, with continuous development undertaken to meet the highest standard of welfare.

Sourcing

Where possible, we source our products and ingredients locally and seasonally to create fresher, healthier and more environmentally friendly meals.

How and who we procure goods and resources from is equally important to us, and our team are all trained to the highest standard in ethical supply chain management.

The Better Chicken Commitment

We are proud to be committed to meeting the standards of the Better Chicken Commitment, addressing animal welfare, sustainability and food safety. By 2026, we will require our suppliers to meet strict requirements for 100% of the fresh, frozen and processed chicken in our supply chain.

Community

As we work so closely with communities and customers, we are in an ideal position to support a variety of community initiatives. We strive to actively support the local communities where our colleagues and suppliers live and work.

This commitment is evidenced by our contributions to school meal programmes, cooking lessons for disabled students and financial support for giveback programmes through our signature coffee brand, Groundhouse.

Charity

We are proud to support Mind, Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer Scotland as our Charities of the Year, as chosen by our colleagues.

In previous years we have funded school meals and clean water programmes in Africa. From marathons in London and Paris, to trekking Hadrian’s Wall, our team is proud to support charities that are fundamental in dealing with some of the UK’s largest health issues.
